Hi,PJ.
Thanks for info, but I have gone through different websites many many many
times over Lottie Leora Canfield who was married with Lorin A. White. She
was a daughter of George M. Canfield and Sarah Webb.
I have not try usgenweb. com yet, but I doubt that there is no Lottie Leora
Canfield under same family of George M. Canfield and Sarah Webb. Nothing is
happened. Maybe, you can help me by luck. Never know!!!!
One person did help me out, but almost. It is different family, but very
close.
No luck.
Adrienne
Adrienne, have you tried www.usgenweb.com I have found lots and lots of
info..there.. and there is alot about Canfield's on the www.ancestry.com
for the Boston, and Rhode Island area... it is "user friendly". Not like
some sites that make you pull your hair out...PJ

Please send me specific rootsweb address. There are several rootsweb
addresses, which don't show surname helper. I hardly cannot remember where
it is.
I am glad that you found it finally. I have had gone through different
genealogy websites, but nothing is happened.
With help is great.
Thanks, Susan.

Adrienne, I was snooping around Rootsweb last night and found a site I hadn't
seen before. Maybe you have, but I'll tell you about it anyway.
On the "home page" for Rootsweb, go down to "Surname Helper". I just typed
in "Canfield" and found a whole list of things. Go to "CANFIELD BIBLE
RECORDS". There I clicked on the hyperlink for the posting, and there was a
Bible that showed a George Canfield with Lottie and SIBLINGS!
I hope this is something you can use!
Love,
Susan
Any body knows about George M. Canfield who was born in New York on Dec.

Any info. on his siblings???

Goodness!! where are all these Canfields coming from? I am a decendent of
the Canfields of WV. I have a book on the Canfield family history and each
time there is a posting, I look up the name and 9 times out of 10 can not be
of help to anyone. Maybe this time I can. According to the book written by
Hallie Kyle Canfield, there is a listing of a John S. Canfield from Nicholas
County WV that was listed in the 1880 census. Under John S. Canfield, there
is a listing for Harrison Canfield who is listed at age 19.
Do you know of any other children of John Skidmore Canfield?

My family is from Indiana, I am a Canfield. Our family has been in Indiana
for years. My great-great grandfather, Edson Scott Canfield Senior, was born
in Union Mills, LaPorte Co. Indiana on March 21, 1880 and died November 27,
1949 in Union Mills, Indiana. His father and mother were Winfield Scott
Canfield, and Olive J. Davis. Which would be my great great great
grandparents. I don't know where they were born or when.
Edson Scott Canfield Jr. is my Grandfather who was born September 2, 1909 in
Union Mills, LaPort County, Indiana in the living room of the farm house,
and died in September 1974 and died in the back bedroom of same farm house he
was born in, in Union Mills Indiana. He was married to my grandmother,
Helena Margaret Fargo, born November 21, 1914 Chicago, Cook County, Illinois.
That is as far as I have gotten. Does anyone know any more about my family?
I just can't seem to get passed Winfield Scott Canfield and his information.
Thank you for your help

PJ, I haven't had nearly enough time to go through the web site you directed
me to, but after looking at just the home page, I have more hope than I've
had for a long, LONG time. I never thought of the "Jacob" Canfield that my
Momma talked about being spelled "JaKob"! And William J. is a name that is
familiar to me. Many years ago my grandmother (whose Mother was a daughter
of John Montgomery Canfield) gave me an old tattered book. Inside the book
was a name: "William J. Canfield --- England".
You can't know how much I appreciate your telling me about this web site. I
will keep you posted on what I find! I am so excited I'm DROOLING (well, I
might be exaggerating a LITTLE bit). Thank you again!
Susan :-)
In the Box Elder, Utah 1900 census, John Canfield, age 52 was listed. Born
June 1849 in New York. Both parents also born in New York. He was married
to Alice (Hatch) Canfield. Children: Charles, Alice, Oscar, Orville, Henry
and Josephine.
Does anyone have any information on John Canfield?
Thank you

Everything's ok, PJ.....thanks for getting back to me. Just to make sure I
understand...you found Eugene E. Canfield in Tolland, Windham Co...correct?
Ralph
Hi, everyone.
I hope you can find something related to George M. Canfield as cousin and
sibling. He was a father of Lottie Leora Canfield. I would like to have
information on George's siblings. He was born in New York on Dec. 1835. He
may had died after 1900 in Hendricks PCT, Otoe County, Nebraska. His parents
were born in Mass. No names available.
George's wife Sarah Webb was born on March, 1846 in ILL. She may had died
after 1900 in Hendricks PCT, Otoe County, Nebraska. Her parents were born in
New York--No name available.
Lottie Leora Canfield was born in Benton Co., Homer TWP on Feb. 13, 1867. I
am not worried about finding her sibling now. I will work on it later
because I already know that she had one sibling without name through census.
There is no way to find birth records of three of them above because the
records are not available for oldest period of years in Iowa and Nebraska.
So, hopefully, I can find death records available in Nebraska for Lottie's
parents only. I do have a death record of Lottie in Nebraska. I am not
worried about that. I have no idea if Lottie's parents had died after 1905,
but hopefully there is records available before 1905 in county.
See the clues of census and let me know what you think if it is possible to
find death records of Lottie's parents in Otoe County, Nebraska after 1900?
>From the 1880 Nebraska Soundex:
G. M. Canfield Vol. 7, E.D. 197, sheet 9, line 28
White, male, age 44, born New York
Otoe County, South Branch Precinct
Others: Sarah I. Canfield, wife, age 34, born Illinois
Lottie L., daughter, age 13, born Iowa
Perry, Frank M., Bo, age 2, born Nebraska ('bo' usually means boarder,
but at age 2?)
>From the 1900 Nebraska Soundex:
George M. Canfield Vol. 31, E.D. 103, sheet 2, line 85
White, born Dec 1835, age 64, born in New York
Otoe county, Hendricks Pct
Douglas Village
Others: Sarah Canfield, wife, born March 1846, age 54, Illinois
The actual 1900 census listing for the above soundex entry provided the
following information:
1900 Nebraska census
Otoe County, Hendricks Pct, Douglas Village, 4th day of June 1900
Dwelling 51, family 51
Canfield George, head, white, male, date of birth Dec 1835, age 64,
married 37 years, born New York, parents born Massachusetts
Canfield Sarah, wife, white, female, date of birth Mar 1846, age 54,
married 37 years, mother of 2 children, 1 child still living, born
Illinois, parents born New York
The significant information here is the fact that Sarah had given birth
to two children, but only one was alive at the time of this census.
Also useful is the information that George and Sarah were married 37
years.

I may try search after 1900 to 1920 through Vital Office in Nebraska??? More
advise?? Thanks

My ancestor Buckman CANFIELD was b. Feb 27, 1800 in Oswego, NY. He and his
wife Harriet Putnam b. abt 1831 married had one son and then moved to Harris
Co., TX arriving Feb. 6, 1833. Buckman Canfield died in Harris Co., TX
1844.
There is a legal document in Oswego Co., NY (Volney) for Thomas Canfield
who died before 1827.
Vol N. Page 336. Buckman Canfield (Grantee) to George Parish (Grantor) "This
Indenture made this ninth day of February in the year of our Lord 1827
between George Parrish of the Village of Ogdensburg in the Co. of St Lawrence
and the State of New York of the first part, and Buckman Canfield of the Town
of Volney, Oswego County, of the second part. Witnesseth that the said party
of the first part, in execution of a contract heretofore made between David
Parrish, deceased, and Thomas Canfield, deceased, of whom the party of the
second part is heir and assignee of the heirs of the said Thomas and for, and
in consideration of........"
Thomas married Martha Underwood Feb 1794 in Tyringham, Birkshire, MA. ( I do
not have documentation for this marriage, or a copy of the will for Thomas.)
If this Thomas is indeed my ancestor, the line can be traced back several
more generations, in MA, CT and NJ. Some of the earlier info from Extracts
from " Colonial Families of the U.S. of America" by G. Norbury MacKensie.
and the Frederick A. Canfield Notebooks.among other sources.
I did get some valuable information from the Canfield Family Association in
the mid 90s, but have not had any contact with them since then. They were
located in Wichita, KS. Does anyone know if they are 'still in business"?
With an ancestor named Oresmos (?) and mine named Buckman, both from Oswego,
NY we might just be climbing the same tree.
Hope to hear from someone who is hanging on the same branch of the CANFIELD
FAMILY tree.

Leilani, you are pretty darn close I would suspect to the family I am looking
for. My great-great grandfather Orsamus Canfield's obituary specifically
mentions the town of Millsport, "Chennung" County (which we believe is a
misspell), NY. And according to the same obit, he moved to Elkhart, Indiana in
1832 and on to Three Rivers, Michigan in 1839 and marries Emma Cole in 1841. She
died in 1851. They had 4 kids in Michigan but names and disposition unknown. He
then marries a second time in 1852 to Hannah Duncan., moves to Iowa in 1862 and
then has 9 kids by her all born either in Michigan or Iowa. He lived to age 92
in Iowa near Chariton, Lucas Co., IA.
One brother, Amos Canfield, is mentioned as coming to Iowa in 1852 which was 10
years before his brother, my GG grandfather, Orsamus Canfield came to Iowa.
Sooooo - if you and I can prove that there were other siblings or cousins(?) in
that area, then we have a match. I am going to research as best I can from that
angle also. Thanks for keeping me in mind -- I found one cousin in Mass. via
genealogy, it would be nice toknow more. Hope to talk to you soon. Sandy Childs
from Calif.

PJ, does the Connecticut State Library have any of their references on-line?
If so, do you have the URL? Would appreciate your listing it if you have it!
Thanks so much.
Susan
Well, since everyone is talking CANFIELD's again, I think I'll try my luck.
My great-grandfather was John Montgomery CANFIELD. My Momma's Bible states
that his father's name was Jacob and was born in Newark, New Jersey. I am
thinking there must have been a marriage to a Montgomery along the way that
my great-grandfather was named after.
John Montgomery CANFIELD married Eleanor Johnson. In 1880 they were living
in Miami County, Kansas. I am not sure when or where John Montgomery died,
but in the 1911 Houston, Texas City Director, Eleanor Canfield was listed as
the widow of J. M. Canfield.
John Montgomery CANFIELD was born in Ohio. I don't know where. Marion
County was sometimes talked about, but I have found no proof of that.
If ANYONE has any information on this line, or can even verify that John
Montgomery's father WAS Jacob, I would appreciate anything you can share.
I have names of their children (John Montgomery's and Eleanor's) if that
would help.
Thanks again.
Susan
