Info: I did not have the death info on Lucy, but have a range of dates for Thomas
Nathaniel Sr....bet. 1855 and 1860. Thirza Belfrey, Henry's first wife, died in March
1860. Olive was married to Elias Widdifield. William Cane Niles married Amelia Belfry,
daughter of Christopher and Charlotte Belfry. Married Oct. 8, 1878. He was from California
and that is where they returned. His nephew, and namesake, eventually ended up in
California as well. I have a maiden name of "Martin" for Nancy, Lucy's
mother. Lucy's brother, William Cane owned a pencil factory in Newmarket and was mayor
of Newmarket for a period of time. William married Catherine Belfry, sister to Thirza and
Christopher. Lucy's son, Thomas Nathaniel Jr. died in 1890 just a little over a month
before his wife, Margaret Rutledge. Their daughter, Olive, went to live with Henry Stiles
Cane, a nephew of Thirza and Henry Dodd Stiles. I don't have anything further back on
Thomas Sr. although I believe the family also came!
up from the US, possibly from around the Albany area. I did find a biographical sketch
of Henry Dodd Stiles that said he came originally from Kentucky and was a merchant,
magistrate and leader in the ranks of the Reform party and took part in the War of 1812.
