** For obvious reasons, this is not something to be discussed ON THE LIST **
Hi, everyone:
An important note: Most of RootsWeb will be off line on the morning of Thursday 19th
January to shift servers to a new location. All you really need to know is this:
DO *NOT* RE-SEND POSTED MESSAGES IF THEY DO NOT
APPEAR AS QUICKLY AS USUAL ON THURSDAY, JAN. 19.
That means that if list traffic stops dead, or if you send a message and you don't get
the list return message to you, do *NOTHING* until Friday, U.S. time, at least. What
follows are some details, in case you are interested.
This list will almost certainly be affected, but Message Boards and WorldConnect are both
already at the new location so these services should keep running.
The time of the shift will be **ROUGHLY** from 12 a.m. (midnight) through 6 a.m. Utah time
(US Mountain Time). This equates to **ROUGHLY** six hours beginning **ROUGHLY**:
US and Canada
2 a.m. Eastern
1 a.m. Central
12 midnight Mountain
11 p.m. Pacific
United Kingdom/GMT - 7 a.m.
New Zealand - 8 p.m.
Australia
6 p.m. AEDT
5:30 p.m. ACDT
5 p.m. AEST
4:30 p.m. ACST
3 p.m. AWST
Other time zones you will have to calculate.
Mail sent to lists during this time should spool (wait) at your ISP, or at the message
boards server, for RootsWeb's mail servers to come back on line. For this short down
time, no mail should be returned. However, this involves a number of computers interacting
with a number of humans, so who knows?
The watchword is PATIENCE, and the motto is RE-SEND NOTHING, UNTIL FRIDAY AT LEAST.
