I don't have proof of sibling connection but have copy (somewhere) of marriage
certificate of Henry Cane and Louisa Rason married at Hove. This document references
father's name as William and mother as Harriet ne Baker. Henry was born 1838 and
worked as Clerk of Works for Gilbert Scott. Later he went to India and worked on prrojects
in Cooch Behar. His family was installed in the more temperate Darjeeling. My g
grandfather had taken entrance exams for Cambridge University. I hace a copy of this
examination.Henry had relatives who had emigrated to the Pacific Northwest and gave
Frederick the option of going to University or going to the United States. Frederick chose
to go to Oregon where he obtained a teaching certificate and was known by some as the
"walking encyclopedia". His elder brother, Thomas Cane, left from England 1873
for New Zealand where he served as the Provincial Architect of Canterbury then had a
private practice and later in life sold his watercolors to !
support himself. He was born 1830. My gg grandfather joined other members of the family
in Washington/Oregon. I have one of his oil landscapes hanging in my home. Do you think
we are related from these references?
Christine
