Thanks for the detail about Margaret CANDY (nee BOWN).
I can carry the CANDY line back - if you're interested - to around 1600 in and near
Frome, and a couple of generations before that in nearby West Wiltshire.
I don't know for sure, but I suspect that Margaret BOWN was a daughter of John and
Margaret BOWN who were living in West Cranmore and had several other children baptised
there around the same time. However, the West Cranmore parish registers are in very poor
repair, and I have never been able to conclusively prove her parentage.
Given the extent to which farming families intermarried at that time, it is possible that
John BOWN was a brother (or at least a cousin) of Susannah BOWN who married Christopher
CANDY in Cranmore on 10 February 1774.
