I find these unsubstantiated notes in my file for this Samuel Candee,
my
7th g. grandfather:
"He lived and died in West Haven, at the southwest corner of the Green, a
beautiful location, as Rev. Mr. Orcutt very rightly says. The first entry in
West Haven about him is in 1729, when Captain Samuel and Zaccheus Candee, with
several others, each gave six shillings to have the church bell rung at nine
o'clock every night. . . . October 1731, he was Lieutenant of the Company of
West Haven, and shortly after Captain . . his estate inventoried 4,370
pounds, six shillings, and seven pence." -- Baldwin p. 14.
Burial: West Haven, CT
Occupation: Mariner, ship captain
Also, Abigail was christened: 29 Jul 1688, First Congregational Church in
New Haven.
That's all I have to share, I'm afraid.
Bob Squires
thank you Bob for sharing that information. I knew that one of my ancestors
was a ships captain. We have an old sea chest that was handed down. I guess
that is the ancestor.
