Dear Ray:
There's a lot of wrong information out there, especially now that anyone can
put anything on
Ancestry.com or
Findagrave.com and then disappear into the
ether.
We can only try to go back to the original source. (Even I haven't seen the
original source for Mary Canby Hampton's death year of 1794, which I'm
assuming is the Wrightstown Pa. Monthly Meeting record book as that's where
she died, but I really don't know.) I'm still curious as to the source for
her death in 1754. I was thinking that maybe it was another Mary Canby, but
I've gone through my books and notes and I can't find another one who died
in that year.
So if you or Jean ever find the source, please let us all know. It could be
information that helps resolve another problem.
Remember how I said that living to 97 years old back then wasn't impossible,
but highly improbable? Well, Mary's sister Lydia lived until 101 years of
age. The source for this is:
A Quaker Saga, by Jane W.T. Brey, Dorrance & Company, Philadelphia, 1967, p.
417
On p. 416 of the same book, it lists Mary's birth and marriage years, but no
death year.
Regards,
Mary Jo
