Hi Julie,
The world is getting smaller and smaller!. My niece, Megan Murray was married yesterday
by Rev. Gerald Canavan at St. Rose of Lima Church. He introduced himself and I
thought.well maybe related! Later I overheard him say his family was County Mayo.
Following the service I inquired about the location in County Mayo his family came and he
reported to me Castlebar. I felt in my gut there was a family connection and so this
morning I began to piece Fr. Canavan's family together. I determined that he was the
son of James Canavan and Louise Walder Canavan who had two children, namely, James (your
father???) and Gerald. James your grandfather was the son of John and Anna L(F)ord
Canavan. Your great-grandfather, John passed away in 1922 and I believe your
great-grandmother remarried to William Pollard. Your great-grandfathers death certificate
revealed he was the son of Michael and "Lavelle" and his birthday as July
27,1885. I was then able to locate his baptismal record i!
n Addergoole showing his birth as actually being July 27, 1880! I know that Michael was
born in about 1842-1845 and that his father was Anthony Canavan married to Mary Mayock.
Anthony married to Mary is the brother of Patrick (b 1828) married to Ann Bourke. Patrick
and Ann Bourke gave birth to my great grandfather Anthony who married Bridget Kelly and
they in turn gave birth to my grandmother Bridget!
Bottom line, as best I can determine, my niece was married yesterday by her 3rd cousin -
once removed!!
Regina Murray Nau
