I am searching for my great-great-grandfather Canavan. My
great-grandfather (William Henry Canavan) was orphaned as a toddler in
the Chicago area. His father (a ship captain) supposedly died around
1880 in a shipwreck during a storm on either Lake Michigan or Lake
Superior. Possible first names for this man are John, Peter, or William
Henry.
I have documentation from Notre Dame University regarding a William H.
Canavan who was a student there from 1869 to 1876. At one point, this
man gave a forwarding address in Chicago. I have tried to find out what
happened to this man once he left Notre Dame, to see if he can be
connected to my family, but no luck so far. Any help or even hypotheses
would be most appreciated!
