CASTLE GARDEN. The sesquicentennial of the opening of this immigrant
depot in New York City was celebrated August 1 with the launching of a
new website by
CastleGarden.org. It includes a searchable database of 10
million names.
Led by Dr. Ira Glazier, former director of the Center for Migration
Research at the Balch Institute for Ethnic Studies and Immigration (now
part of the Historical Society of Pennsylvania).
CastleGarden.org
promises to be a vital resource for genealogists, the general public,
and for scholars interested in the history of immigration through the
Port of New York.
