Hi, Sharon:
Due to old age and an increasingly lower IQ, I seem to be making more
mistakes than ever. I know I said Samuel, but I meant Stephen. I have
tried many times to tie in with early NE branches of Canaday, Canada,
Kennedy, etc., but so far have been unable to do so. Our southern
branch
seems to have either arrived early in ports such as Jamestown,
Charleston, Savannah or where ever, but I have never broken through our
history enough to know for sure.
If I ever run across your Yankee branch, I will certainly let you know.
Cordially,
bill

You mentioned a Samuel Canaday. My ancestor was a Dr. Samuel
Canaday, born
around 1779. Most paperwork indicated he was born in Hanover, New
Hampsire
but a census record filled out by his son, Samuel, says he was
born "Ireland,
at sea". Family information passed down is that three brothers
came over
from Ireland around 1770 through Boston Harbor. I am at a dead
end and can find
no information regarding 3 brothers, except a letter written that
says the
family came to the new world about 1770 and settled on the
Connecticut River
in New Hampshire and three sons were born there. Around 1800
those three sons
camed inland to near where Springfield now is. One stayed there
and two
moved to Indiana and then they split and one went on to Watseka,
Illinois and
the other to Missouri near Springfield. Samuel's wife was Sally
Miller and she
was from Corinth, Vermont. They later moved to Ohio and settled
near their
son, Samuel. This Samuel had a son, Solomon, who was my great-
grandfather.
I have loads of information on this Canaday family. Does anyone
out there
have any information on them ie who was Dr. Samuel's father?
