I have not seen that name, Harmon, before, Becki, but I will keep my eyes
open. Well, at least I succeeded in getting some activity on this list, by
writing about Henry Canida. I am still looking for information on the
parents and siblings of my gg grandfather, Caleb Canady/Canada (whatever -
it was even spelled "Kenady" on the 1850 Tallapoosa Co., AL census). Caleb
was born in 1770 in Virginia - supposedly - and he married Mary "Polly"
Evans, born in 1780, also in Virginia. I don't know when they left
Virginia, but they made it down to Georgia and were in Putnam Co., GA and
then in Campbell Co., GA in 1830. They had 14 children, if I remember
correctly, and by 1850, they had moved on over to Tallapoosa Co., AL. Their
daughter, Drucilla, born 1815, was my great grandmother. Mary Polly's
parents were William Evans and Wilmoth (Stokes) Evans and William's parents
were George and Hannah (?) Evans. As far as I know Wm. & Wilmoth died in
Putnam, and George and Hannah died in Clarke Co., GA. Some of Caleb and
Mary Polly's children remained in Alabama, some went on to Mississippi, and
some to LA and TX.

My great-grandfather, Harmon Cummings Canada also spelled his name
Canady
and Canaday. He was born in 1819 in South Carolina. I understand that
Canada/Canady/Canaday are Irish names which also are the root of the name
"Kennedy".
Harmon C. Canada married twice - first to Almarie Funalza Simmons and
after her death to my great grandmother,
Celia "Cely" F Bradberry.
I am looking for additional information about Harmon Canada - his parent's
names or the names of his siblings. Has anyone run across his name in
your searches regarding your families?
Thanks!
