I can't help noticing your conversation. I worked on my husband's Canady family
some years ago and keep meaning to get back to it now that even more is available online.
I can get my husband's Canady line back to Robert Canady in Nicholas County, Kentucky,
showing up there by 1809. But his name really started out as Kennedy in tax lists! And
census of 1810 shows him as Kinaday. I just do not know from where Robert came, however.
Now, the lines into which his son married had all come from "Lower Delmarva"
area -- all lived right on what was the border of Delaware and Maryland (first Somerset
Co. in Maryland, later Sussex Co. in Delaware as border was established). They immigrated
to Nicholas along with some other relatives who had land grants. Other members of those
families immigrated to NC and other southern states. The son of Robert that I know the
most about generally used Canady.
This gives me the idea that perhaps those Kennedys/Canadys had also done the immigration
from Lower Delmarva and spread out.
I think a serious Canady researcher could do more with this idea.

William,
I saw your note to Carolyn Sue and the info that you mentioned that your
Grandfather changed his name to Kennedy from Cannady/Canady is of great interest
to me. I am a Canady with relatives from Emanuel County and along with a few
cousins have extensive family knowledge of the Cannady/Canady line. I do a lot
of Cannady/Canady research and in fact have just left the Mormon Library in SLC
and will return there in a few days. My line is from William E. Cannady from
the Swainsboro/Twin City area. I had info that one of the sons of William's
brothers had changed the name to Kennedy. I wonder if that is your grandfather?
All of my cousins and I are stopped in our research (verified) with the father
of William E., James H., and Daniel B Cannady. Do you have the descendants of
the John Cannady of Darlington, SC.? Would certainly like to communicate with
you on your research and findings. If you would be so kind to provide me with a
phone number, I would be delighted to spe!
ak with you.
I live in Southern California and travel home to Ga. often and spend a great
deal of time researching the Cannady/Canady/Kennedy info. I am currently on
vacation traveling throughout the Western US. Would love to make contact with
you.
Regards,
Bob Canady
