I have found a little information on the Canaday line from Somerset Co.,
MD to Loudoun Co,. VA to Wayne Co., IN. I believe this line was a
Quaker line because of whom the sons married. This same line also had a
son who might have died in NC, but I have no idea where that line
wound up.
My interest in the line is because I am trying to find where my great(5)
grandfather came from. His name was Samuel Kennedy, but he also spelled
it Kanady in his will. He was in Robeson Co., NC, dying there after
1800. One of his daughters Sarah spelled her last name Canady, Kennedy,
and Kenady! My branch of this family went from NC to Kershaw Co., SC
to Weakley Co., TN.
So far I have not been able to connect my line to any Kennedy, Canady,
or Canaday line.
I do recall that there were Canaday families in Frederick Co., VA prior
to the time mine were found in NC so that might have been where we came
from.

Jamie's note reminds that I have been looking for a Robert Canady
married to Elizabeth Knott for a long time, despairing of every finding from whence they
came. I strongly suspect Virginia, too. They lived in Nicholas County, Kentucky, and I
estimate Robert born 1770-1780 (from census), and unfortunately died before 1850. I
follow the son John, born in 1814 in Kentucky. John married Jane West, from a line that
came from Delaware, but in the lower Delmarva area that was Maryland part of the time, and
her lines are heavily Maryland-Accomack County, Virginia.
What experience have people had with Canadys from Virginia, or from Delmarva?
