I have also been researching the Quaker Canadays to try to connect them
to my father's family (Kenaday, Kennedy) in SC. I think the line for
Nathan below is as follows.
William Canaday 1645-1650 England or Ireland m Anne Fisher May 28, 1667
Somerset Co., MD. William was transported to VA in 1665; listed in
Somerset Co., MD in 1666.
John Canaday b ABT 1680 Somerset Co., MD m unknown
Charles Canaday b 1715 Kent Co., MD d 1745 Loudoun Co., VA m Phebe Ann Beals
John Canaday b Apr 5, 1741 Prince George Co., MD d Mar 2, 1820 Wayne
Co., IN m Margaret Thornburg Apr 20, 1764 Guilford Co., NC
Walter Canaday b Dec 19, 1771 Guilford Co., NC m Anne Hussey
Nathan Canady b 1803 Highland Co., OH
I have never found this family in Alabama. I believe they were part of
the westward Quaker migration after the Revolutionary War. Many of the
Quaker families (Canday, Horton, Haworth, Mendenhall, etc.) left NC for
the "west" (Ohio, IN, IL, IA) in part because they started purchasing
slaves and the freeing them, thus making their neighbors very unhappy!
