Hi Bill,
First, Walter couldn't have been a Mormon since what the Mormons evolved from
wasn't founded until 1830 in up state New York.
I have your information on the Canaday line including Walter born in December 1771 in
North Carolina. In your paper on the Canaday Families in America you have Walter's
wife as Nancy and I have it as Annie but that doesn't make the names mutually
exclusive. From going through census records I have been amazed at the name variations of
the same people. She could very easily have been Nancy Ann. Anyway, with the cemetery
records for Jefferson County, Iowa she is listed as Annie and Walter as being born on
December 1, 1777 in North Carolina. So I believe the Walter Canaday you list as the son
of John and Margaret Thornburgh Canaday is the same Walter Canaday who is my relative
refered to in the 1915 Missouri publication.
