Will of Mary Shackleford Wade Ward Cavenagh - mother-in-law to Cornelius Canaday.

In the name of God Amen, I, Mary Cavenagh, widow, of Carteret County (NC), being weak and
sick of body, but of sound mind...after all debts and expenses are paid and answered, I
give to my two oldest sons, Abraham and Jacob Wade one negro man named Windsor for the two
of them to be divided or disposed of as they see fit. I also give to Jacob two cows and
calves. I give to my son Enoch Ward a tract of land at a place called Bells Neck, and a
negro woman named Sarah, and a girl named Violet and all my stock. I give unto my oldest
daughter, Elizabeth Canaday, the sum of twenty pounds. I give to my daughter Mary Thomson
ten shillings. I give to my daughter Joanna Simpson twenty pounds. I give unto my
daughter Sarah Benthall, the sum of twenty pounds, one cow and calf. I give to my
daughter Henrietta Chadwick, a negro girl named Rose. I give unto my daughter Jane Davis,
a negro girl named Flora. I give to Cavanagh Simpson, son of my daughter Joanna Simpson,
one young mare!
. I appoint my sons Enoch Ward and Jacob Wade executors to my will.

Mary Shackleford, daughter of John Shackleford, married 1st Robert Wade; at Robert's
death in 1745, Mary married Enoch Ward; Enoch Ward was Mary's brother-in-law
(Enoch's 1st wife was Elizabeth Shackleford, a sister to Mary). After the death of
Enoch Ward in Mary Shackleford Wade Ward married 3rd Ananias Cavenagh, there were no
children from the 3rd marriage.

June Term of Court 1745
Mary Wade, widow of Robert Wade, dec'd, produced a certain instrument of writing, the
Last Will of the said Robert, and the said Mary hath given security with Valentine Wade
and Thomas Gilderkin in the sum of fifteen pouns proc. money and by this court
administration on said estate is granted to the said Mary.
September Term of Court 1745
Mary, the late widow of Robert Wade hath returned an inventory of the estate of said
Robert Wade.
December Term of Court 1745
Enoch Ward, Gent. who hath intermarried with Mary Wade, widow, have rendered an account of
debts paid by said Ward, which said debts was due from Robert Wade dec'd in the amount
of 181 pounds 10 shillings.
June Term of Court 1751
MRS MARY WARD, WIDOW OF ENOCH WARD ESQ DECD, WITH THE CONSENT OF MR RICHARD WARD AND MR
EDWARD SIMPSON HATH APPLIED TO THIS COURT TO APPOINT MEN TO DIVIDE THE HOUSEHOLD GOODS
BELONGING TO THE ESTATE ACCORDING TO THE TENOR OF THE WILL AND THIS COURT HATH APPOINTED
DANIEL REES ESQ AND GEORGE READ TO DIVIDE THE SAME, THE PARTIES CONCURRING, GIVING
THEMSELVES NOTICE TO DO THE SAME BEFORE THE NEXT COURT TO WHICH THE SAID AWARDERS ARE TO
MAKE THEIR REPORT.
THIS COURT ADJOURNED FOR TWO HOURS.
