Am looking for information about the following individuals who were listed as the largest
creditors owed money by the estate of Isaac Perkins who died in 1832 in the Black Hawk War
in Illinois (btw there was an Isaac Mendinhall who was also killed along with Isaac at the
Battle of Stillman's Run).
Isaac Perkins lived in Tazewell Co. IL and was married to Jane Barker, daughter of Lewis
Barker. Isaac was born ca 1795 in KY, parents not yet proven but suspected to be a
Solomon and Elizabeth Perkins. Isaac's brothers were Daniel Reese Perkins, Elisha M.
Perkins and Solomon Perkins. There were also three sisters, Elizabeth who married Joel
Hargroves, another who married Solomon Casey, and the third one unknown.
Sarah Kenedy Wallace was owed $411.51 from the estate
John Kenady Wallace was owed $208.27 from the estate
Hugh McAdams Wallace was owed $208.27 from the estate
Nathan H. Canady (estate), deceased, owed $5.08 from estate
These Wallaces were by far the largest creditors of the estate, which was unable to pay
off everybody in full. The executor was Isaac's brother Elisha M. Perkins. No
Wallaces were purchasers at the estate sale.
Perkinses seem to have a connection to the CASEY family. In Spartanburg District SC there
is a will for a Sarah Casey dated 1828 that lists among others a P.M. Wallace as well as
James Casey, Martin Casey, A. Casey, Levi Casey, William Casey, and Randolph Casey (who
supposedly was married to a Sallie Perkins).
Elisha M. Perkins has a close association with CASEYs as well; in 1820 he is found living
in Casey's Prairie township in Jefferson Co. IL and may have married a Casey for his
first wife, as his oldest child was named Zadoc C. Perkins (the first governor of IL was
Zadoc Casey). His known wife was Susannah Barker, sister to Jane Barker and daughter of
Lewis Barker.
In Ninety-Six District of SC in 1796 there is a plat map for land owned by a Robert
Hendrick that mentions as neighbors Levi Casey and Margaret Canady.
I have traced Solomon Perkins Sr. backwards from IL (where he died prior to Oct. 1809) to
Livingston Co. KY/Christian Co. / Logan Co. KY to Pendleton District SC where he was
listed in the 1790 Census. He acquired land there in June 1789. Prior to that he was in
Burke Co. NC.
I believe these Perkinses are descendants of Richard Perkins of Baltimore Co. MD in the
1690s. There were also Canadays in MD early on, I believe, may be coincidence.
Does any of this ring a bell with anyone?
