My Cannadays were from Virginia but I think they may have been in
North Carolina previously. There are a lot of Cannadays in Guilford
Co, NC so you might check with the college there. The N.C. Cannadays
were Quakers as were my Underwoods in N.C.( in that period but later
became Baptists) and the family into which the Cannadays married. You
might want to check Hinman's Quaker Encyclopedia which can be found in
almost all libraries. The Quaker records are very good for
statistics; however, if you don't find the marriage in Hinman's work
don't be discouraged. I understand even though his books are very
large and comprehensive not everything he found was included. Billie

Subject: [CANADAY] CANADAY JOHNSON: 1810 TN?--1884 MO
Canaday Johnson (b. 1810) was son of John Johnson and his first wife,
name
unk. Canaday was the first child of this marriage, so I suspect John
and Unk
wife were married @1808-09, prob. TN/NC. Canaday m. Lodicia Hankins,
10
March 1832, Morgan Co. AL. They migrated to Dent Co.MO @1850. Canady
died
in Dent Co 1884. Canaday also had one full sibling, Sarah (Sally) b.
1813.
Their mother must have died between 1813 and 1820, when John Johnson
married
#2 wife, Lovie Pullen.
My question is: does anybody in the list have a woman, maiden name
CANADAY,
who married a John Johnson @ 1808-09 in TN/NC? I believe the "given"
name of
Canaday Johnson may be the maiden name of his mother. Does any of
this ring
a bell with anybody?
Many thanks, Will exchange info.
