I don/t know if there is a connection with your Campions, but his is
what I am fairly certain of about our Campions. Our connection is from
Margaret Campion who married John Brennan in Ireland about 1846. I think
they were married in Lisonwey parish, north of Kilkenny City.
We know Margaret Campion was a cousin of Matthew Campion, below.
Michael Campion was born in County Kilkenny, Ireland sometime between
!825 and 1830. We do not have a certain date and his age varies by
several years between censuses.
Michael married Mary Kennedy in Ireland, where their first child,
Matthew was born in 1844. Thereafter they emigrated to Canada and
thence to Vermont, where Their second and third children were. They
moved to Michigan City, Indiana in 1850 and their fourth child Mary was
born there.
I have not found them in the 1850 Census.
We find Michael and Mary in Michigan City, Indiana in the 1860 census
which has the following entries.
Michael Campion, 35 Blacksmith
Personal estate $25, born in Ireland
Mary 38
born in Ireland
Matthew 15
born in Ireland
Michael 12
born in Vermont
John 11
born in Vermont
Mary 4
born in Indiana
Maybe this will provide another clue, Matthew's middle name was Elevart,
and there is some sort of a connection with
ant Elevart-Green family, in Ireland, I think. Matthew became a priest
in the RC Fort Wayne Indiana diocese.
He was pastor of St. Vincent's in Logansport for many years.
I also know there was another Campion family in Logansport, but I have
not found any connection with our Campions.
