Evidently these Campions lived in Hinckley and then moved to the borough of
Leicester for the older children were all married in the Borough in the
1820s. They left England for the United States in 1832. At least some of
them left then. The husband, William Campion, died three weeks after the
wife, Frances Flora, arrived in Philadelphia, but we don't know whether he
died in England or the United States. He was not on the ship with her and
we know he came to the U.S. a year or so before she did to get settled.
Not sure if he went back to England to settle things there and died there
or in U.S.
After browsing the list, it appears our numbers are few but we seem to be
searching mainly in the area of Leicestershire and Nottinghamshire (plus
one in Essex) and also in Ireland. With Campion being a French name, I've
been advised to look for the Campions coming over from France with William
the Conqueror. But I'm only to the late 1700s in my research. It would
seem likely that those of us in Leicestershire at least should eventually
connect to the same lines. Hope we can work together to share information.
Have a great day!
