I am descended from Mary Ann's father, Captain Charles Mellon, through Mary Ann's
sister, Matilda Augusta (Mellon) Clark. I have been aware of Mary Ann and Thomas Campeau
(Camnpau) for quite awhile. In fact, I found some letters at the National Archives (I work
in D.C.) that she wrote to the federal government after her mother, Eliza, had been denied
her pension (from Capt. Mellon's death in the Seminole War) after she had been accused
of being a Confederate sympathizer. I do know the Campeau family was one of Detroit's
earliest and most prominent families. Thomas was the City Surveyor for awhile and had an
architectural firm with his sons. He is buried in Mt. Elliott Cemetery whereas Mary Ann is
buried with her mother in neighboring Elmwood Cemetery. But I don't know what became
of his line.
