I have traced my Campeau roots back to Alfred Campeau, b. abt 1849 in Ile
De Montreal, Quebec, Canada, mother Sophie, father unknown, sister Susan
and possibly 3 brothers. Alfred came to Traverse City, MI prior to 1870
and by 1880 Sophie & Susan had arrived. He married Anna McGarry in 1872.
Anna's f. Michael, m. Bridget several sisters & brothers were from
Rosscommon Co Ireland and settled in Traverse City area prior to 1880.
Alfred & Anna's children were Clara B, Mina A, Mary E, Frederick Michael
(my grandfather), Annie, Leo & Oliver. Alfred was very successful as a
lumberman, farmer & real estate investor. Many decendants remain in
Traverse City.
