I have from Dennisens French Families of the Detroit River Region:
Victoria Campau, born 27 July 1833, St. Antoine, d/o John Baptist, born 5 sept 1807
married 12 oct 1830 at St. Antoine River Raisin Elisabeth Thibault, bornDetroit of Gabriel
& Jane Cardinal. Siblings were: Julian, b 29 July 1831 St. Antoine, Zoe, b 8 May 1836
same, Sophia, born 29 March 1838 same, Adelaide, born 7 april 1842 Monroe, Sarah, born 3
june 1842 Monroe, Elisabeth, born 29 june 1844 Monroe, Charles, born 13 feb 1847 Monroe,
Adelaide, born 3 dec 1849 bp 24 March 1850 Monroe, John Baptist, born 30 sep 1851 bp 6 May
1852 Monroe.
The parents of John Baptist Campau, father of Victoria were, Julian, born 10 sep 1755
at Detroit, buried there 25 Jan 1814 married there 10 aug 1803 to Agnes Chauvin, b there 1
nov 1774. Parents of Julian were, John Baptist, born 4 aug 1711 Montreal, buried 12 june
1783 at Detroit, married Catherine Perthuis, born 1718, buried 20 feb 1763 at Detroit.
Parents of John Baptist were, James, born 31 May 1677, buried 14 may 1751 Detroit married
1 dec 1600, Cecilia Catin. James was the son of Etienne Campeau, born 1638 LaRochelle,
France, a stone mason, son of Leonard & Frances Mauger. Etienne married Catherine
Paulo, 26 nov 1663.
Colleen, your search has only just begun!!!! You need to get a copy of Dennisens two
book set, contact the FCHSM to see if they still have them for sale. Or, I could copy the
pages that you need, but you will find that your Frecnh-Canadian lines follow the book set
throughout and it is nice to have them. Also, for instance, Catherine Paulo was a
"daughter of the King", which has fascinating history behind it in its self.
There are books on this subject I can provide if you'd like.
In Dennisens you will find siblings and other parentages, it is very exciting to put
together. Hope this gets you started.
