Hi !
I haven't seen the house, as I only learned of its existence by a friend of the owner,
who the asked me to look up and see what I could find out about the family who used to own
it.
The only Campeau Family that I founded in St-Polycarpe (Soulanges County), QC ,CAN, is the
family of Antoine CAMPEAU and his wife Sophie LEGAULT.
Antoine Campeau was born around 1801, and he was the son of Augustin Campeau &
Scholastique Belmont, from St-Hermas, a little parish in the area of St-Eustache. Antoine
Campeau was married to Sophie Legault on October 20, 1828 in St-Eustache. Sophie Legault
was born around 1805 and was the daughter of Joachim Legault and Clémence Biroleau.
The parents of Antoine Campeau, as well as the parents of Sophie Legault, were all living
in St-Eustache. Augustin Campeau (born around 1775) and Scholastique Belmont dit Montauban
were married in 1798 in St-Eustache. Joachim Legault dit Deslauriers and Marie-Clémence
Biroleau dit Lafleur were married in 1794 in St-Eustache.
I don't know in what year, but somewhere between 1828 and 1881, Antoine Campeau and
his wife Sophie Legault went to established themselves in the parish of St-Polycarpe. It
is there that they can be founded in the 1881 census.
In the 1881 Census, Antoine Campeau and his wife Sophie Legault live at St-Polycarpe with
the two following children :
1) Louis (Male), 35 years old (born around 1846)
2) Célina (Female), 27 years old (born around 1854).
In the house beside them, live one of Antoine Campeau's son : Léon Campeau (born
around 1837 and died around 1919) and his wife Edesse Gauthier (born around 1842; daughter
of Arsène Gauthier and Angélique Brasseur). Léon Campeau and Edesse Gauthier were married
on October 21, 1862 at St-Polycarpe. In the 1881 Census, Léon Campeau and his wife Edesse
Gauthier live with their children :
1) Emma (F/17 years old)
2) Aldéric (M/15 years old)
3) Hectorine (F/13 years old)
4) Napoléon (M/11 years old)
5) Indiana (F/9 years old)
6) Firmin (M/5 years old)
7) Alexina (F/3 years old)
8) Octave (M/born in 1881, is not 1 year old yet).
I did not find any other children with the surname Campeau in the census in St-Polycarpe.
Of course, women Campeau who would have married would have taken their husband's name.
So I went in the Soulanges County marriages repertoire and founded some other children of
Antoine Campeau and Sophie Legault :
- Marie-Louise Campeau (F) (born around 1836) married to Charles Charbonneau (son of
Joseph Charbonneau & Louise Ducheneau), on August 19, 1856 in St-Polycarpe.
- Josephte Campeau (F) married to Louis Boyer (son of Louis Boyer & Rose Dorais), on
July 14, 1857 in St-Polycarpe.
- Marguerite Campeau (F) married to Maxime Bériaud (son of Bénoni Bériaud & Lucie
Chaussé), on October 27, 1857 in St-Polycarpe.
- Antoine Campeau (M) married to Marie André (daughter of Pierre André & Victoire
Léger), on July 30, 1860 in St-Polycarpe.
- Aurélie Campeau (F) married to Gatien Beauchamp (son of Félix Beauchamp & Marie
Bourbonnais), on July 5,1864 in St-Polycarpe. There is also a second marriage for Gatien
Beauchamp (also known as Désiré) (widower of Aurélie Campeau) on April 25, 1892 in
St-Télesphore, to Henriette Maheu (daughter of Barthélémy Maheu & Henriette Maheu).
- Also a second marriage for Léon Campeau (widower of Edesse Gauthier) who was married on
May 10, 1910 to Olymple Gauthier (the sister of Edesse Gauthier; widower of Joseph
Cédilotte that she had married in 1859).
In the same marriage repertoire (Soulanges County), I have also founded two daughters of
Léon Campeau et Edesse Gauthier :
- Emma Campeau (F) married to Napoléon Martin (son of Amable Martin & Sophie
Montpetit), on July 4, 1882 in St-Polycarpe.
- Victorine Campeau (F) married to Fortunat Legault (son of Milasippe (?) Legault &
Philomène Brunet), on August 2, 1887 in St-Polycarpe.
I hope you will find these information interesting.
