While doing volunteer data entry at our local library in Ontario,
California, I came across this obit which might be of some interest to
someone on this list. I have no further information on this family, as it
does not relate to the Campbell line I am personally researching. Nancy
Luella Petre Campbell, widow of W. J. Campbell, well-known
clubwoman and Ontario resident for 40 years, died yesterday at her home,
315 West G street, after several years of failing health.
Mrs. Campbell came to Ontario from her native Axtell, Kan., in
1909 and during her long residence here was active in the religious, civic
and social life of the community. Long a member of the Ontario Woman's
club, she was a past president of the Ramblers club, and an honorary member
of the Round Table club at the time of her death. She was long a devoted
member of Bethel Con-gregational church and was a past matron of Euclid
chapter (unclear).
Surviving Mrs. Campbell are a son, J. Byron Campbell, Ontario, and
a daughter, Mrs. R. B. Caldwell, San Antonio Heights. There are three
grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
Funeral services for Mrs. Campbell will be conducted tomorrow, 2
p.m. at the J. B. Draper company chapel, 127 West C street, with the Rev.
John Berron Toomay of Claremont, former pastor of Bethel church,
officiating. Interment will be in Bellevue cemetery.
