If you're certain he was from Covert in Seneca County, then there was
only one Campbell family in Covert, Seneca Co in 1840 - Thomas Campbell
and wife, both aged between 40-50, and the one and only child living
with them in 1840 was age 15-20, which is how old your David would have
been if he was 28 on the 1850 census.
There were four other Campbell families in Seneca County in 1840, and
one was named David - oh, here's the break down on all of them so you
can make your own determinations . . .

My brick wall. My gggrandfather, David Campbell, was born in the town of
Covert, Seneca County, New York in about 1821. He moved to Tompkins
county,
New York in about 1849. He married Jerusha Bower and they had two sons.
He
died in 1869. I have been unable to trace his roots. Would appreciate
any
help or direction.
