Hello
I'm Craig Campbell and I'm looking for any info or leads for the ancestors of a
John Campbell who was born September 10, 1817 in Pennsylvania, possibly in Fayette County,
or probably in the SW portion of the state. John in later census listed his father born in
VA (possibly in what is now West VA.) and his mother was born in PA.
John Campbell married Ann(a) Barnett(e) prior to 1846, Ann was born on Aug 14, 1825, the
daughter of William and Frances "Fannie" (Hatfield) Barnett(e), and was born in
Fayette Co. PA.
John and Ann Campbell had the following children in Fayette Co. PA.
-- James Runey Campbell 1846
-- William Campbell 1848
-- Simon Campbell Feb 14, 1850
-- Joseph Andrew Campbell April 28, 1853
-- Jane Campbell abt. 1855
In 1856 John, Ann and their children moved to fayette County, Ohio and had the following
children there
-- John F. Campbell July 1858
-- Calvin C. Campbell December 1860
-- Henry Duncan Campbell May 31, 1864 (my Great Grandfather)
Ann (Barnett(e) Campbell died July 23, 1864 in Fayette County, Ohio, and John remarried a
widow Deborah (Hughes) Veech later that year. John and Deborah had 7 children together in
Ohio.
John and some of his children moved to Cass county Missouri about 1882 and John died there
in 1899. In his obit it does say he was a native of Fayette County, PA, although this has
not been proven for sure.
Hopefully someone has a missing John in their files that fits my John's criteria i.e
date of birth and location in PA.
I believe his oldest son's name James may be a clue or link, as the second son was
William, named possibly after Ann's father. The middle name of RUNEY may also be a
clue, as I have been told Runey is primarily a Scottish name. Ann possible disagreed with
naming him Runey and John agreed to use it as a middle name...... who knows. The third son
appears to be names after Ann's brother Simon, and daughter Jane was also possibly
named after Ann's sister Jane.
Any help would be greatly appreciated ..... Craig
