Death records:
If you guesstimate that he was between 25 and 35 when he married, this would
mean he was born 1861 to 1871. This would mean he died between 1959 and
1969. This range is not covered by the online index.
Next thing I suggest you do is get that marriage cert as it should tell you
the year he was born.
Next you can look up the immigrants index
(
http://www.records.nsw.gov.au/indexes/indexes.htm )
and you might get lucky.
This will tell you the ship he arrived on, and where it came from. If you
get the transcript of the passenger list, it should contain more information
about him, depending how well the captain completed the list. It should list
his place of birth and his occupation, and where he boarded the ship. All
just a bit more to go on with.
Then, there are other places to look, but you need to know what you come up
with first!
Good Luck
Julia

Hi Wendy, also Diarmid and Julia,
As yet I don't know the year of death. So far my uncle, b 1939, has
told me this info but he doesn't remember him, or have any idea of his
death date. I've been to the bdm site to discover there are many John
Campbells. I have found the marriage certificate. Is it worth buying
these, do they have more info than is given in the indexes?
Thanks
