Hello Christian, and other Campbells,
I'm from Australia and I have been lucky to have much of the family
documented in a manuscript by a family member who was in contact with first
generation Australians, who in turn, had documented information from our
Campbell and Maclean family on the Isles of Coll, Tiree & Mull of the Inner
Hebrides of Scotland.
I recently did a Y-DNA test through the CAMPBELL group administered by Kevin
Campbell. I found myself alone in the survey results, quite removed from
other tested CAMPBELLS. To reinforce my result, I had my bro and a
documented "cousin" dating back to a common anscestor of the early/mid-1700s
test. Bingo! All a common result.
Since, our Y-DNA community has been joined by another CAMPBELL of a line
documented to be ex-Ireland/Belfast ... that first arrived in Charleston,
South Carolina. Then to Sullivand's Island. Descendants then in Alabama,
after Decatur, Georgia. That family carries notable christian names "James
Alexander" and "Richard O'Neal". Until now my only "proven
cousins" outside
Australia/NZ, went to Louisiana and various parts of Canada - NS, Pictou,
Ontario, Manitoba, ... they have "common" Campbell names such as John / Ian,
Colin, Archibald, Donald, Neil, Alexander ... a promising start!
This message is really to encourage all male Campbells (carrying the name)
to test for the Campbell Group Y-DNA test ... I hope this can help all of us
to advance in our research.

I am hoping that someone reading this list might have information on the
Allen/Alan/Allan Campbell who married Elizabeth Caroli(n)e Metcalf(e) on 7
August 1850 in Franklin, AR. His birthplace is listed variously in the U.S.
Census as GA or TN. I can find no documentation regarding his parentage,
only what seems like speculation.

I have occasionally seen him identified as a son of John K. Campbell, son of
Edward Campbell, both from originally from Cumberland County, N.C.,
evidently of the Cape Fear colony.
