It is doubtful that our Campbell clan moved from Caroline County into King William County
but we just do not know. We can validate only a hand full of names of our Campbell kin
that came out of Tidewater. George Sr died in Caroline in 1749. Son James died also in
Caroline leaving no off Springs. Son William and his wife Elizabeth moved to Amherst and
died therein 1785 leaving George Jr and his wife Cathy who also moved to Amherst and died
there in 1791. These are the only confirmed names of Off Springs of John and Sarah
Campbell who married in Essex County in 1695. John died CA 1709 . Sarah died in Caroline
in 1751. There were 3 other Campbells from the Tidewater that moved into Amherst County
after the mid 1750’s. Their descendents match DNA with off springs of George Jr: They
are Francis, Henry, and Moses Campbell. They all had large land holdings and raised
large families in Amherst County and Bedford county.
John Campbell and wife Sarah could and perhaps did have children more than son named
George and George and Elizabeth could have had sons and daughters more than George Jr,
James, and William. Also, perhaps a daughter named Elinor who married a William Shazo.
We just have not found a connection. Any new Campbell information you can provide will
be given the appropriate research. Thanks BH
