Grant-I'm very interested in your information for 2 reasons.
#1-there is a family story regarding my ancestor, Lawrence Campbell. The story relates
that a young Englishman met a young woman in Holland who was part of the nobility (perhaps
a Dutch duchess). The girls family took exception to this romance, and sent the young girl
away and held the young man. The young girl was supposedly so distraught that an aunt took
pity on her and sent her money so the young lady could go off to the colonies and be with
the young man. Some believe this young woman was named Henrietta CATLETT.
#2-We have been unable to decisively confirm Henrietta's last name as Catlett-the
Cadet house you mention below is a very similar name, and I wonder if there is a
connection. Can you share anymore on the story, particularly about the Campbell Cadet
house?
Regards,
Rob Richmond

Hello,
I descend from the MacLea's of Linsaig, who fought in the service of the
7th Earl of Campbell in Holland under Phillip III of Spain in the 1630's.
The 7th Earl could not return to his Lands after Phillip's loss and my
MacLea's lost their Barony of Linsaig, and took refuge in Donegal. These
MacLea's were favorites of the 7th Earl and it is reasonable to believe,
due to local inter-marriage, that we descend from the Campbell Cadet
Houses, who were our neighbours.
Do we have a Clan Genealogist who has detailed records?
Thank you in advance!
Grant MacLea South.
