Hi Cousins.
I've been verifying information on my Campbell ancestors that was provided by previous
researchers. I cannot say it enough-do not beleive everything said by previous researchers
as the "gospel truth".
A distant familial relationship wrote that our common ancestor, the Reverend/Doctor
Alexander Augustus CAMPBELL, attended the medical school in Philadelphia and graduated in
1812. This detailed hisory was published in the "Annals of the American Pulpit"
So I went looking for information about the college, and was able to correspond with
someone in the archives program. They did in fact confirm that Alexander A. CAMPBELL was
in fact a student there, but never graduated. He probably took up an aprenticeship with a
physician who was not affiliated with the school after completing some studies there.
The provider of this informaiton was the Reverend Campbel SYMONDS. Now while I have no
doubt that his intentions were pure, his methods as the family genealogist at the time
leave something to be desired.
Keep looking-personal family stories are excellent leads, but should never be taken as the
sole source.
