Wow. This feels like family. The entire discussion on CAMPBELL-D
Digest V04 #309 accomplishes exactly the activity I'd referred to in my
reply to David Caimbeul (from whom I received a very nice off-list
response--thank you, David).
As I noted, those of us searching for Campbells in the early South need
to look first at groups more than individuals. Coincidentally (or
perhaps not), Digest #309 included several messages that circle around a
group that is of great interest to me in my search for one of the John
Campbells born in 1775 in NC.
To that end, Larry's reference to the "Percihull Campbells" and the
"Union Grove set" is extremely interesting, as are references in another
email to Archibald Campbell, George Campbell, Milton Campbell, and
Aeneas Campbell--all names which pop up in connection (proximity,
mostly) with my John Campbell.
Thanks to all of you for sending such encouraging tips on NC Campbells!
Maureen

Subject: Re: [CAMPBELL] re: Iredell County Campbells
Char,
I kind of missed the part where Iredell was formed from Wilkes (Actually
it was Rowan) but in that end of the county, there lines are still
blurred. It is possible that road was assigned to different takers.
Anyway, the Campbells in the end of the county are the Percihull
Campbells. They are sometimes called the Union Grove set. There should
be huge lines available on them. I have an old one in storage from many
years ago but could not lay my hands on it. You may find some thing for
your line in those files. The only Campbells in the Wilkes County book
is Joseph Alexander Lafayette Campbell born 17 Apr 1833 in Alexander
Co. . Just a suggestion. Larry

earlier, prob in same place but Iredell was formed from Wilkes. By
1810 he and all sons with exception of Wm F were in Russellville Logan
Co., KY. (he went around 1820) John was born ca 1756 and married to
Sarah Forester. I have been trying to find his father, who I am
suspicious that he too is John, I have a receipt of a court order for
Wm F. signed by a John Campbell, Sr., would like to hear from anyone
connected.
