He most certainly did become king of England and eventually managed to
control most of the British Isles.
He was however not British,
He defeated Harold the last Saxon king of England near Hastings in the South
of England.
He was never king of Scotland or the Scots.
He was also known as William Rufus (The Redhead) and William the Bastard and
prior to conquering the English was the Duke of Normandy.
Some of my roots are Bruce and Rolland both of which are Norman names but
widely spread in Scotland.
