I would have to disagree with Dave on his comment that 'there were no
Britons in Great Britain prior to 1066 AD...'. The islands were inhabited
by people who called themselves 'Britons' or 'Bretons' and their DNA is
the
same as those who inhabit Britany in what is now a western coastal part of
France.
These were the people whom the Romans conquered in those parts of the isles
they succeeded in governing. Many took on the Roman culture and some of
their eventual Christianity.
The 'Britons' spoke a Welsh style of 'Celtic' language. Modern Welsh and
modern Gaelic have drifted further apart than they were then.
The Saxons (including Angles, Jutes, Fresians etc.) began to invade what is
now England in the British Isles before the Romans left. They came to
dominate what is now England. Recent DNA mapping has proven that they did
not push out the Britons as previously thought, but merely dominated them.
The Saxon families became the lords of the land. It was these 'Saxon'
leading families who were overthrown in turn by the Norman invaders in and
after 1066.
The 'Normans' were 'Norse' who had gone out doing what they called
'baying'
('Viking' was their word for it) - people from the Norlands (now
Scandinavia). They had been settled for 150 years in what is now Normandy
in France before William Duke of Normandy invaded England in 1066.
Interestingly enough the very early parts of the pedigree of the O'Duine (or
later Campbells) gives their legendary or mythical descent as from the
eponymous 'Bretan' from whom the Britons claimed descent.

Dear
Britainy is in France and there were no Britons in Great Britain prior to
1066AD when the Normans(Norsemen) conquered England under William the
Cinqueror.
There is evidence in the Northern Hebrides of a people who may have lived
there prior to Egypt. I have not heard if that date has been verified. It
is
all theoretical. If someone claims their genealogy back to these people I
would
like to see their data.
