Ross,
There is one difficulty with what you have;
If Robert MacLean (McClain) was born in Stirling in 1746, he would be only
10 years old when Lord Loudoun took command of the British and colonial
troops in the American Colonies in the French-Indian War. Lord Loudoun was
replaced before the battle of Ticonderoga in 1758 when Robert would have
been 12.
Lord Loudoun was the Campbell Earl of Loudoun in Ayrshire and not 'of
Stirling'.
I hope this helps.
Diarmid
(Campbell, Kilmelford, Argyll, Scotland)

Good morning My Ancestor
Robert McClain was born in Stirling ,Scotland in 1746 and later in life
was in Loudoun County.Va. He was a Captain under Lord Loudoun in the new
America. Is there anyway we might trace his family through the Campbell
Clan?
