Dear Marvin,
Is this Richard Henderson Campbell born 1825 & died 1888, whose son is John
Wesley Campbell born Aug 1856? If so, he is in my line.
Alicia

Subject: [CAMPBELL] Lt Col Richard Campbell
Major Richard Campbell joined the Virginia line from PA., was wounded
at
Camden, SC in April 1781 and killed at Eutaw Springs, SC in September
1781.
Richard was promoted from Captain to Major in February 1778. I
can't find
the exact date he was promoted from Major to Lt Col. but it was prior to
1780 because Lt Col Richard Taylor and Lt Col Richard Campbell exchanged
stations 17 Oct 1780.
Lt Col Richard Campbell was granted 1,000 acres of land between the Scioto
and Miami Rivers and northwest of Cincinnati for his military service..
Since Richard was deceased, his son, John, used the grant and got the land
in 1799. John died 1817 and his will was executed by Richard Taylor and
Basil Middleton (who was a Surgeon for 3 years on the Virginia line)
Was there a family connection between the Campbell's, Taylor's and
Middleton's ?? I haven't figured that yet.
The land could have been in either Butler county or Hamilton county. I
would
rather think Hamilton because there were unclaimed letters for John
Campbell
at the Cincinnati Post Office.
