Thanks for the quick responses!
Angus Campbell in (possibly) Coarnach. I do not have an adequate map
of the
Kingussie area - what you give is presumably the parish name - but it is
possible that Coarnach is towards Loch Laggan and the district of Lochaber.
If the family was Catholic is it possible that Angus was one of the
MacGlaiserach Campbells (who sometimes only used MacGlaisserach).
Diarmid
Coarnoch ,I believe, is the "address" or farm Angus was from. There is a
Croft Carnoch on the map just NE of Kingussie, which is keeping within the
Kingussie (and Insch at the time) Parish. Although it's possible that they
were Catholic, she did marry a Presbyterian McPherson (record is from the
Kingussie OPR) and would have converted, particularly as Duncan was a
founding elder of the Presbyterian Church soon after arriving in NY.
If you haven't already, You can find out more about the McPherson
clan on

The earliest dates I have for my New York Campbells are 1835, so they could

Mary,
Thanks - I'm already a member of Clan McPherson! Our McPhersons (and
Catherine Campbell) settled in the Caledonia/Mumford/LeRoy area of NY.
There are two books out called the McPhersons of Genessee County Vol 1 & 2
about them. We are currently working our some of the problems in the book
right now. If yours are in this area, you might want to check out the
books. My line is the "E" Duncan McPh.
There are a few other Campbells (not related as far as I know) if anyone
wants me to do a look up for them. Most of the settlers came in from 1799
to 1830's, mostly from Invernesshire and Perthshire.
One of Catherine and Duncan's sons is John, also known as Deacon John. He
is quoted as saying that his mother was from "high" or royal birth. Now,
usually these things are false but this is a Deacon after all and gives
some credence to family "rumors". My only interest in this is that if she
indeed came from a noteworthy Campbell family, there *must* be records!
There is also other possible siblings marrying the McPhersons so this is
more than my single research. Any thoughts/help in this is greatly appreciated.
cheers,
Peggy
