Hi,
Listed below are all of the notes that I have that refer to Duncan Campbell
and Mary McCoy, I havent figured out if there are two different families
here or if they are all related. One goes back to Dugel Campbell and claims
descendency through Duncan, then John, then William; the other one doesnt
go back beyond Duncan and comes down through Robert Campbell, then Charles,
then Joseph and William. My question is: Are John and Robert brothers?
If anyone finds out for sure let me know so I can merge the two families.
Hope this helps someone.

Hello,
I was informed back in Oct. 2002, by Ruby G. Campbell, that Mr. McCabe was
doing some investigation into the lineage of Duncan Campbell & Mary McCoy.
I was wondering if anyone has heard of any updates on this and could forward
it to me?
Regards,
Bobbie

Jim,
If you do not already have copies of the two articles about the family which
Dr. Ruby Campbell PhD (CCS(NA) Genealogist) published in the Clan Campbell
Society (North America) quarterly 'Journal' a couple of years or so ago,
I would strongly suggest that you write to her and ask for copies (including
with your letter a small donation towards postal and copying costs): Dr.
Ruby Campbell PhD, 3310 Fairway Drive, Baton Rouge LA 70809 USA.
This was on the subject of the newly discovered late 18th century Genealogy
of that family found among some Virginian papers in an antique shop at
Savannah in Georgia. Ruby has to stay off in the net to prevent her being
swamped, so I fear that if you are interested it will be a question of
gearing up to lift a pen, find paper and envelope and wander near a Post
Office, very antique I know, but will produce results. She always answers
polite letters.

Subject: Campbell/ McCoy/Hay/Ann Unknown Lines Challenge
To the Campbell List,
I have a challenge for all of you who are connected to the John
Campbell/Mary McCoy line, (yes you read that right...lol) the John
Campbell/Grizle Hay Line, and the John Campbell/ Ann known Line.
Here is what I have:
According to the 2 Articles written in the Campbell Quartly Journal, from
the North American Clan Campbell Society, which I received from Ruby
Campbell and seems to be the most accurate and up to date on these lines:
it states that: Duncan Campbell married Mary Ramsey their son John Campbell
married Mary McCoy.
John Campbell and Mary McCoy had a son John who married Grizle Hay (correct
spelling of her name by the way, according to the article ).
Now my question and challenge is this: Did the John Campbell who married
Grizle Hay have a son John who married Ann Unknown? Or did the son John of
Duncan and Mary Ramsey marry all 3 women?
Last year this theory of John marrying all 3 women Mary McCoy, Grizle Hay
and Ann Unknown was presented to me, from what I can remember of the
conversation I asked for proof and was told that the proof came from an
elderly lady who's name could not be reveled.
If one was to believe which I do, the Article in the Quartly Journal then my
only question would be did John and Grizle Hay have a son John who married
Ann Unknown?
Also, I have copies of these 2 articles scanned and can send upon request,
along with the request, I am sending the e-mail address for any of you who
would like to subscribe to the quartly Journals from the Clan Campbell
Society of North America.
I would appreciate any feed back on these lines, and also accurate dates if
possible and proof of dates. I do Believe the dates is why most of the
information is mis-leading , confusing or incorrect . It makes it hard to
prove anything. Lets see if we can put all our information together and
finally figure this mess out. e-mail directly at cb.campbell(a)verizon.net
Oh one more thing, from what I understand these families came from the over
seas to Augusta Virginia, and Yet the John Campbell and Ann Unknown are
found in York County,Pennsylvania, and was said to be from New Jersey. This
I would also like an answer to if possible.
Thanks for any help,
Barb

This is my line also- so happy to see other's are working on it.
My only proof on the earlier Campbell line is also Ruby's Campbell's
information and bits from the Clan Campbell Web site. I would like more
documentation and substantiation.
My line is:
Duncan & Mary McCoy>son Robert & Margaret>son Charles M. & Mary
Trotter>son
Joseph & Sarah Givens>son James & Margaret Berry>son John & Cynthia
Black>daughter Matilida & Jacob Peak.
I also have a William Campbell b. 1754, VA d. 1822 Ohio. m. Elizabeth. He
was the son of Charles M. and Mary Trotter. (His Will was probated: Brown
Co., OH: Will written 23 May 1822 - probated July 1822 it names: Witness:
Archibald Hopkins, John McConnaughy, Isaac Ellis. Names wife, Elizabeth:
Sons, Samuel, James, Charles, Joseph N., John W., Sally Benson (Bimpson),
Fedelia Campbell, Elizabeth Humphries. Executors: John W. Campbell and

I hope this helps someone.
