No, not even a guess... We have been given several possibles, none
documented to date:
James Campbell b VA in 1770 who married Elizabeth Meklander (I have not
found a listing for a marriage or any thing other than someone having it in
a family tree.. they do not list children.
There are a few who think Elias Campbell & Chloe Swindler... but I see lists
of children documented.. none show Ellis.. they do show an Elias.. but he
shows elsewhere with different family. *this line from TN
I found a notation in our family book
http://www.lmcampbel.com/Cambook/Local%20Publish/index.htm
The Campbell's are Here (scroll to bottom of pages for links to next pages)
The notation was of an Ellis R Campbell b 1756 in NJ who married Nancy
Clawson. I did some research, found DAR and other documentation on this
Ellis, including his pension file. He would have had to be Ellis b VA's
grandpa, not his father. Of all his sons... I found only two possibles
(rest are well documented):
Cornelius Campbell b abt 1780-85 (One researcher on AGI states that this is
the Cornelius who married Elizabeth Lenox (a Native American) on 24 March
1804 in Davidson co TN (still considered by some to be part of VA). I found
the marriage, but no other documentation to connect this man to Ellis R of
NJ or Ellis b VA...
The other possible son was Joel Campbell who was a minor when his father,
Ellis R Campbell died in 1810 in NJ. If Joel was younger than 13, he is
out. I am not sure if he was being called "not of age" per the age 14 rule,
or the age 21 rule. My guess is he may be too young to be Ellis b 1804 in
VAs dad, but he is a possible.
Since Ellis b 1804 had a son named Fountaine.. thinking he may be related to
Sam's Fountain Campbell b 1803 in VA.

Yes, this is "our" Ellis & Elizabeth Campbell.
Elizabeth shows as born in
Tennessee. The writing is awful.. it is AL with a huge swirl at end that
makes it look like All. Derias shown below is actually Dorcas a female
(oldest daughter & first born in MO) age 10. All other census and
personal
data, including her marriage & husband's will probate prove this fact.
We don't know what happened to Matthew/Matthis or Ambrose/Andrew. We have
the rest of the children.
