Thank you.. That will help some. Has anyone seen the surname Melander
anywhere in their lines? We feel this is a large clue.
We also noticed that Nancy married Benjamin Wright in the Dutch Reformed
Church (Quaker?). Was Benjamin a Quaker, or was Nancy Campbell?

Subject: Re: [CAMPBELL] RE: Dicey Campbell b 1800 in VA - Does anyone have
this Wright/Campbell line?
Hello Margie and others,
My ancestor was Francis Wright, of Amherst Co VA. His son was Benjamin
Wright, and his son was Moses Wright b. 1744 Albemarle Co VA d. 1830 Amherst
Co VA.
This Moses Wright, married Elizabeth Ann Whitehead, d/o John, m 11-1775
Amherst Co VA.
They had a son Jesse Wright, who is my ancestor.
They had another son named Benjamin Wright. He first married Nancy
Campbell, d/o John, s/o George Campbell and Caty, of Amherst Co VA. This is
the George and Caty 'clan' that you hear so much about on this mailing list,
it is a huge descendant group.
Benjamin next married Dicey Campbell, who was the cousin of Nancy. I do NOT
have noted in my files the father of Dicey, I am sorry. But I am sure
someone else, will reply with that name.
I have noted that Carolyn White cjwhite46(a)aol.com is interested in the Moses
Wright family, she might have more that I do.
Moses Wright was a Rev. War Vet, his widow was awarded a Rev War Pension on
his claim. Therefor, the DAR should have a file on him.
Out of the list of 12 kids for Moses Wright, I have that 6 of them married
CASH persons. The CASH researchers would also have alot on this man I
imagine.
Let me know if I can help more.
Best regards,
Lilly Martin

Dicey Campbell was born in 1800. Interested in the following
Campbell/Wright line. Who were Dicey Campbell's parents? Who were
Nancy Campbell's parents? NOTE: Nancy was first wife of Benjamin
Wright

U.S. and International Marriage Records, 1560-1900 Record
Name: Dicey Campbell
Gender: female
Birth Year: 1800
Spouse Name: Benjamin Wright
Spouse
Birth Place: VA
Spouse Birth Year: 1773
Marriage
Year: 1821
There is a large difference in their ages.. So Benjamin was old enough
to
be
her father, which was not uncommon back then. It does leave the fact
that he may have had children older than Dicey when they married.
Since he was said to have been married to her cousin.. I checked for that:

Subject: Dicey Campbell
Hi again. A couple weeks ago I was nosing through some more
Campbellstuff,
and as usual was trying to solve this Ellis saga. I found something
very interesting. Of course at this point, I don't know of what
significance
it
may or may not have but I wanted to make you aware of it. If you are
aware
of what I am about to tell you, then please just forgive me.
As you know, Ellis Campbell ( 1804 in VA) had a daughter named Dicey.
However the Dicey I am writing about today is NOT the daughter of Ellis.
I have seen different dates on her birth, but this Dicey was born
somewhere
around 1806. She married 21 March 1821 to a Benjamin Wright in
Amherst County, Virginia. ( Note this marriage record has her born
1800, and
Benj.
Wright b 1773).
This was Benjamin's second marriage. He first married a Nancy Campbell.
The post on
Rootsweb.com by Dan Wright says that Dicey was a cousin to
Ben's
first wife Nancy.
Anyway, there is listed 14 children that Dicey and Benjaminhad. I am
not going to list them all, but the thing that interestedme was the
following names of some of their children...Elizabeth,Dicey, Mary, and
a son named Melander who married Polly Campbell. This Dicey who
married Benjamin
Wright
had a father named MatthewCampbell. Also in 1830, Lincoln County,
Tennessee, there are severalWright's listed including a couple Benjamins.
What has gotten me excited is the fact that these are the same names
as Ellis'children. It just seems like that this may be of some
significance.
That is alot of names from one Campbell family just to happen that
another Campbell family has the same names. I can't help but wonder
if there is a link. As you know, back in those days alot of people
were named after
their
relatives, more so than today. I know there is speculation that
Ellis'
dad's name might have been Cornelius. If in fact his dad's name was
Cornelius, then perhaps this Matthew who is Dicey's father could have been
his brother??? Of
course, it is just pure speculation on my part. To change the
subject, I just put in the mail today, a request for a death
certificate
for
Elizabeth Campbell who married E.R. Haywood. As you know, that was
Ellis'
daughter. She died in Missouri in 1921. I want to see what Jefferson
City
has on her death certificate as the maiden name of her mother
Elizabeth.
I
am aware it is debated whether it is Young or Cobb. I have a copy of
the death certificate that Jeanette gave me of Ellis' daughter Malinda
who married Joel Polk Woods and that certificate says Cobb as the
maiden name
of
Elizabeth. Death certificates were required by law in 1910 in
Missouri.
If
I knew when Fountain Campbell died, I would order his death
certificate also. He married Mary Phillips. Jeanette doesn't have a
date of death
for
him, but seems to think it was after 1920.
I might just start working on trying to find a date of death for him.
I hope Jefferson City gets those certificates back to me in a couple
of weeks. I will let you know what they have down if anything for the
maiden name of Elizabeth. Just curious, what do you think about this
Dicey Campbell who married Benjamin Wright? Do you think they are
worth taking
a
closer look at? Let me know what you think. P.S.
I know James Mehlander spelled his name Mehlander, however Dicey and
Benjamin spelled their sons name Melander. I still think it could be
of some importance. Joyce
