Hi! I am forwarding this from the Knox Co., OH message boards. I am not related to the
Campbells mentioned here but was thinking that someone from this list might be.

Trying to find information on my maternal great-grandmother and
great-grandfather and I’m having NO LUCK with
Ancestry.com because they
don’t have the databases I need. My mother knows very little because they
both died very young and left my grandmother and her brother orphans. My
great-grandmother was born Estella (AKA Stella) May Carroll in Centerburg, Ohio
(Know Co.) on 09 Apr 1874. The story goes that she met my great-grandfather
(Ezra aka Edgar or possibly H.S. Campbell) around 1895 when he came to town as a
carnival worker. They ran away together and got married, much to her family’s
dismay. Where they were married is unknown but it was probably in Ohio. Their
next event was the birth of their son Guy (may have been a nickname) Campbell.
He was born sometime around 1900 but I have no clue where. Their daughter Emma
Bridwell Campbell (my grandmother) was born in Charleston or Jefferson, Missouri
on August 9, 1902. She never had a copy o!
f her birth certificate because “the courthouse in Missouri burned down”
according to my mother. In April 1904, pregnant with her third child, Stella
and her children boarded a west-bound train (possibly to meet Ezra, possibly in
New Mexico). During the journey, Stella went into labor and got off the train
in El Reno, Oklahoma. Something went wrong and she and the baby died. A grave
has been found in El Reno Cemetery, Canadian County, OK with the name of Mrs.
H.S. Campbell. My grandfather believes that this is Stella’s grave. Ezra (or
whatever his name is) cared for the children for a short time but then gave the
children to Stella’s family in Ohio who raised them. Ezra disappeared, and
his last known whereabouts was the Elks Club in Albuquerque, New Mexico in 1905.
He supposedly died of tuberculosis but no further specific information has been
found. Emma Campbell married Earl Leewood Oberdorfer on November 24, 1927.
They had 4 chi!
ldren and she died in Cuyahoga Falls, OH in January 1965. Guy apparen
tly married and had a daughter in California but I have no information on him
accept the few stories my mother remembers from her childhood. He died in
California in the mid to late 1950s.
My goal is to find information on “Ezra Campbell.” To this end I have tried
and failed to find one of the following:
· Marriage certificate for “Ezra Campbell” and Estella Carroll
(approx. 1898, probably in Ohio).
· A Census record that shows Ezra and Estella living together in 1900,
state unknown
· A birth certificate for “Guy Campbell” (approx. 1900, possibly in
Ohio).
· A birth certificate for Emma Bridwell Campbell in Charleston or
Jefferson, Missouri on August 9, 1902. (Supposedly destroyed in a fire).
· A death certificate for Stella in El Reno, OK in April 1904.
· A death certificate for “Ezra” possibly in New Mexico circa 1905.
· A death certificate for “Guy Campbell” (approx. 1955/59, probably in
California)
Can anyone advise me where to look? I have not been able to find anything on
Ancestry.com that would help me find “Ezra Campbell.” Any suggestions that
might point me in the right direction would be MUCH appreciated
