Hi all:
Looking to see what became of Freeman Campbell b 1803 in NJ. On 1850 census
he has living with him in NY, NY - 5th Dist, 9th Ward was Nancy Campbell,
age 90 b NJ. This is Nancy Clawson Campbell who married Ellis R Campbell in
Metuchen, Woodbridge Twp, Middlesex co NJ in either 1775 or 1781, depending
on how you interpret the pension file. Also in this household in 1850 was
Mary, 40 (his wife?), Mary GOFF 22 b NY, William Campbell 20,(his son?)b NJ.
Then, in same dwelling, is the family of Diana BECKMAN 22 b NJ, Margaret
BROWN 25 b NJ, Robert H GOFF 28 b GA, Charles GOFF 2/12 mos old, b NY.
The above Freeman Campbell was in the lumber business and had a worth of
$9,000.
This is a part of the family from NJ I am trying to trace the sons of. This
Freeman is too young (one year older than Ellis b 1804 in VA)... And he
looks to be almost the youngest... I thought Joel was the youngest, since
the will of Ellis R states that Joel was not yet of age. This allows me to
discount both Freeman & Joel Campbell as Ellis b 1804's dad. Now I still
have to trace the following sons of Ellis R & Nancy Clawson Campbell:
Matthius b abt 1781 NJ, Edward b abt 1782 NJ, Cornelius b abt 1788 NJ (is he
the Cornelius who md Betsy Lenox in Davidson co TN in 1804?), Allexander b
abt 1793 NJ.
I have ruled out:
Ellis b abt 1783, as he married and stayed (for most part) in NJ, Freeman &
Joel.
The daughters were:
Letitia b abt 1788 NJ, md Joseph Cain Williams and lived in Brooklyn NY,
Mary b abt 1789 NJ, Sarah Martin (her middle name) b abt 1797 NJ m John
Carter Finch, Ann Freeman (her middle name) b abt 1798 NJ
Note that all birth years are guesstimates.
Ellis R Campbell was a veteran of the Rev War (pension W406) & I have his
file. He served as a Sgt under Capt. Matthew Freeman (son of Dr. Melancthom
Freeman). Ellis R died in 1814 & left a will in Somerset county NJ.
If anyone has information on Matthius, Edward, Cornelius, or Allexander,
would like to know.
