Hello group, I had tried to post in the past but my messages did not go
through.
I was looking for information on this Campbell line, they were probably the
most famous Goldminers in North America
yet little is known about them.

Dear Bonnie and others,
I see that you are REPLYING to an earlier post about this couple, but I
did
NOT recieve the original post, so I am sorry if my data here might be all
old news.
William Campbell
b. 1754 Albemarle Co VA
d. 4-16--1836 Nelson Co
s/o George Campbell and Caty, of Amherst Co VA.
Married: Sarah GOODE, d/o Daniel Goode and Phoebe Wright. Married
12-22-1785.
They had 9 kids, one of which was:
Daniel Campbell b. ?? d. ??
According to actual courthouse documents, and not hearesay, here are the
marriage records which may apply:
Daniel Campbell, married Orphia MAYS 9-29-1817 Amherst Co, VA.
Daniel Campbell, married Sophia MAYS 10-1-1825 Amherst Co., VA.
Those above 2 marriages are the REAL record, now there may be reasons that
the name is given wrong, such as if that is a second marriage for her, or
some other reason which would cause her name of be spelled wrong. I can
state that there was a Nancy Campbell given on a marriage record, when in
reality her name was COFFEY, so these mistakes do happen at the
courthouse,
not often, but they can happen.
Also, I would look long and hard at those 2 records, because ORPHIA and
SOPHIA could be the SAME name???? It looks suspicious.....
In the 1860 census, at Amherst Co VA, is listed:
William Campbell 29 yrs,
Sofa " 22
Abram " 5
Curtis " 3
Filanda " 1 (male)
I thought the last name was very strange, and that is why I made a note of
the sex of the child, because I wondered. Now that you say it is Landon,
it
makes sense.
I am so sorry to hear that this young man died and left small kids without
a
father. I suppose it was the War. We lost so many young men of the
Nelson -Amherst Co area.
I see that in the 1880 census Sopha Campbell b. 1838 is still living in
Amherst Co, with Abram b. 1857, Isora b. 1857 her daughter in lwa, and
Robbie b. 1879 her grand daughter.
Apparently Sophia never remarried, how sad. I have seen so many women of
this area, widowed young, but they never remarried.
I see not far from her is Landen Campbell b. 1860, then next door to him
is
Price Campbell b. 1862.
Best regards,
Lilly Martin
