Dear Bonnie,
This Rosa Cash would appear to be of the next generation after William H.
Campbell b. 1818 VA.
In 1860 census, William H. Campbell b. 1818 VA is shown with a wife named
Martha, who we think is Martha Mays.
However, there is supposed to be a William H. Campbell b. 1818 who married a
Rosa Cash. The marriage would be in the 1840's, and it appears the Rosa
Cash you have listed here is being born in the 1840's, so we need to find a
Rosa Cash who is 18-20 years older than this one here given.
The confusion is: there is said to be 2 men, both named William H. Campbell,
both born 1818, both related, both from the Nelson-Amherst Co VA area, they
would be 'cousins' . The only one I can firmly document is the William H.
Campbell b. 1818, married to Martha, in the 1860 census at Nelson Co, Rose
Mill, living next door to Catherine Campbell b. 1795 and also next door to
John H. Campbell b. 1789. This man is said to be the son of Cornelius
Campbell and Catherine Campbell, of Nelson Co VA. This is the "George and
Caty " line.
The story has been related to me, that both men, named the same, same birth
year, one married Rosa Cash, the other married Martha Mays. Then at some
point in time, they both divorced these women, and both married the other
lady. Sounds confused, but who knows, maybe it happened???
Like I say, I can only locate ONE man named William H. Campbell b. 1818, and
he is living in 1860 census at Rose Mill, Neslon Co VA and he is married to
Martha, who probably is Martha Mays. In the 1860 census they have no kids,
Martha is born 1825, and they marriage of William H. Campbell to Martha Mays
is recorded as 2-20-1847 at Amherst Co VA.
Given the Amherst location of the marriage, it seems that would indicate
that the bride, Martha Mays, would have been from a MAYS family line which
is specifically in the Amhesrt Co are, as opposed to Nelson Co, if that
helps in the identification process.
In the 1850 census, I am told that William H. Campbell b. 1818 and Martha
are shown with a son name ALFONSO Campbell.
I have been told by other researchers, that my own ancestor, George T.
Campbell b. 1824 d. 1856 , is said to have ben the BROTHER to this William
H. Campbell b. 1818 , so I need to know more about him, and perhaps at the
same time find more about my own ancestry.
Best regards,
Lilly Martin
