Hello,
John Campbell married Grace Hay, they left Londonderry, Ireland in 1725, and
by 1730 were located at Augusta Co VA.
They had sons: PATRICK, John, William, Robert, James, David,
and daughters: Catherine , Margaret, Mary
About 1750 Patrick Campbell bought land in the Augusta Co and Rockbridge Co
VA areas. I can not tell you if this is the same Patrick, s/o John and
Grace, but the name and location is the same.
11-3-1774, Amherst Co, VA.: Patrick Campbell married Ann Ware. The marriage
record states he is "Patrick Campbell of Botetourt Co VA".
Ann Ware: b. abt 1754, d/o Edward Ware, Sr and Leticia Powell. (the marriage
record called the bride Ann POWELL, that is her mother's maiden name. The
witness was James Ware, brother of Ann Ware)
Marriage licences: Book 1, page 6, Amherst Co VA
Edward Ware, Sr lived in the Western portion of Amherst Co VA in the Pedlar
area or the Buffalo Creek area.
Patrick Campbell and Ann Ware had at least one son: James Campbell, who
married Sarah SEAT.
Patrick Campbell filed his will in Rockbridge Co VA, dated 7-15-1777, Will
Book 1, page 1-20, the Will wasfiled on 4-8-1778, his wife is Ann
WARE(WEIR). His Brothers are: James Campbell and John Campbell.
His brother in law is James Weir/Ware.
The Campbell DNA project, has a test participant #6789, which has traced
back to Patrick Campbell of Bototourt Co VA. The results of the test match
the same group as John Campbell and Grace Hay(#11103.#9333, #17993)
Test #6789 for Patrick Campbell also is very close match to test #47499
which is for George Campbell 1720-1791 of Amherst Co VA, who is my own
ancestor.
John Campbell who married Grace Hay, and George Campbell 1720-1791, and
Patrick Campbell of Botetourt Co VA are all related, but at this moment we
do not now if they share the same grandfather, or great grandfather, the
exact level of relaitionship is not yet apparent, but they are related, the
DNA test shows that.
Don't be confused by the name of Elizabeth James, perhaps she was a FIRST
wife? Maybe this Ann Ware is a second wife? Aren't the JAMES family from
Goochland Co VA? There are likely several lines all named James, but I am
related to the line which left VA to settled at Logan Co KY, about 1810 time
frame.
Best regards,
Lilly Martin

Subject: [CAMPBELL] Campbells of [now] Kanawha County WV
Does anyone have info about any Campbells who lived at, or near,
Campbell's Bottom (now Campbell's Creek) in [now] Kanawha County WV, but
was Botetourt and/or Fincastle in early to mid 1770's ?? Looking for
parents of John Campbell, b 1763, and his brother William Campbell, b
c1775 who married Couch sisters Mary and Nancy. Family tradition points
to Patrick Campbell and Elizabeth James as being their parents. I would
like to have proof of that, since none seems to be forthcoming. William
and Nancy Couch Campbell were my 3rd gr grandparents. Thanks for any
help.
Joyce
