AT;
No, it was John that took up land in Nelson County (not Augusta) along with
his son Robert, not George. The key is "before 1761". No George Campbell
took up land in what is Amherst/Nelson County today prior to 1761. This
John could very well be George's father. Remember he came to the area of
what is Augusta County today in 1730 and at that time had 5 grown son and
several daughters.
Lets talk Rockfish: Let me quote to you what he wrote about the Rev. Sam
Black !!
"Rev Samuel Black (Presbyterian) born in Ireland; ordained at the Fork of
Brandywine River in 1737. Moved shortly thereafter to Virginia and took
his residence among the Scotch-Irish population that had seated themselves
on Rockfish River at the Eastern base of the Blue Ridge in what is Nelson
county today not far from the Rockfish Gap. He died about the year 1771.
This settlement, known as the Old Survey as "the town of Rockfish" extended
along the head branches of the Rockfish river and the south branches of
Meachum's rivers. It was partly in Albemarle and partly in Nelson and among
the inhabitants were the following ma,es, viz; Gandilock, Little,
McAlexander, Lockhart, McWilliams, Stockton, Woods, Anderson, Tyrel,
Shields, Whiteside, Mills, Reids, Davidson, Davison, Kincade, McNally, Shaw,
Guss, McCord, Campbell, Frazer, Wright, Warren, Lawson, Edgar, Williams,
Crawford, Hairstone, Dinwiddy, Lacky, Morrison, Murrel, McGregor, Dickie,
Latimore, Henderson, Kerr, Carr, Cowen, Greenhorn, Maupin, Murry, Murray,
Montgomery, Logan, Martin, Head, Miller, Simpson, Wier, Ware, Fleming,
Martin, etc. I do not know that these names were all Scot-Irish" unquote.
Pretty good size village in the 1770's was this Rockfish Town. Note the
Campbell family. That could be the George Campbell you mention. Its just
not a fact that he "took up land" prior to 1761. BH (supper time)

Subject: [CAMPBELL] For ALL OF MY CAMPBELL COUSINS <& CUZ BH IN PARTICULAR>
Alexandra Brown, Identifies only one Campbell that took up land in what
is
Nelson County Today. I believe that Campbell was one George Campbell who
Owned
land on Rockfish River.
John Campbell Migrated from Ireland to Pennsylvania in 1726 & relocated
to the area that is now Augusta County in 1730.
I note the PART, He, <John Campbell > He & his son Robert
took up 5,550 acres of land NEAR what is the Nelson County Line
TODAY in 1749.
I do not get the importance of the fact that John Campbell having taking
up
land in Augusta County,Va. Because it was NEAR What Became Nelson County
59
Years before that area became Nelson County.
NOW I do not know How Far My cousins have Traveled on an ocean going
Ship___?? My experience on the Troop ship on my return from Germany in
1952 ABT
190 Years after the our
Ancestors Made their miserable trip across the Ocean, would
lead me to believe that a Ship Capitan that had brought a Miserable load
of
First time voyagers that distance to what has Became the Greatest Sea port
on
earth <H. R. P. OF E. Would subject them to the continued Misery of
extending
their trip up the Chesapeake BAY to Balt. _____?? Some did I am sure, BUT
I
would credit that theory to Speculation & Not Common sense.
It is a fact that these points were ports of disembarkation in Va.
Tappahanock, on the Rappahanock River, Bay View on the Eastern Shore & of
Course
Jamestown.
I am sure that there are Many researchers that have created an accurate
record, BUT when one read some of the variations & visualizes a miserable
sea
voyage- tends lend to QUESTIONS.
JUST ASKING, BUT who has seen the Ship Roster of OUR Va. Campbell
ancestors having disembarked in Maryland?
QUEIN-SABE- YEP WHO KNOWS- BUT REALY CUZ HAVE YOU
ever been Sea Sick? I doubt if Alexander Brown was ever Sea Sick Either.
I
will continue to try to uncover the area in Va. That OUR Campbell's set
foot on
Va. Soil from the Ship that brought them across the Great Water, oh so
many
Years ago.
