Tax records show no slaves, and none are mentioned in these records. Did
the colonial settlers take Indian's as slaves?

Yes, Native Americas were used as slaves, as well as the African imported
slaves. This is well documented and it is also true that some Native
Americans also owned slaves. So in this case it goes both ways.
Also true is the fact that some Native Americans and African Slaves had
children together, I won't use the term 'married' because that was illegal
and prohibited, but they did have families together. In Virginia and North
Carolina and other location you can find many families which are
Indian-Black mix, or White-Indian-Black mix. It was not unusual.
