In the First edition of the Amherst County Virginia Heritage Book; This
Article By Nita Lawhorn.
In Nita's words, George Washington Campbell, Sr. Came to Amherst County from
Albemarle County VA. <Believe the County Change was the Fact that Amherst
County was formed from Albemarle Co. in 1761>
He serve in the Continental Army under George Washington at Valley Forge.
He died in 1784 <Last Order Book By, L. W. Sweeny, 1771-1792.
He married Elizabeth <??> and had 9 Issue: William, John, <who both served
in the Revolutionary War> James, Nancy, Catherine, Polly, George Samuel &
Cornelius. Daughter Nancy was the youngest. Submitted By Nita LAWHORN.
Sources: Jones Memorial Library. Amherst County Records, Family Records &
Research by other Family Members.
I will look long & hard at this; Along with any & all other Information
that may Show up.
NOW: George being Married to Elizabeth, <??> Nita very likely has that
Correct, <Because there was an E-MAIL from a Campbell Descendent in the Process of
moving into the Stockton Cal Area <__??> I lost that Message & have not been
able to Make Contact with her. Her INFO was correct abt MY 3rd Grt Grand
Father Jesse Campbell & Polly Harvey.
TO he Campbell Descendent in CAL; You Had a BIT about one Samuel Campbell
in OKLA, that Claimed to have had a Step Father in VA. by the Name of
Washington Campbell. HOPEFULLY you see this, & Contact AT <atpowelljr(a)aol.com>
My Records Show George Washington Campbell & one Catherine with 13
Children. Cousin Nita Has 9 children for George & Elizabeth, <__??>
My Records Show; Notes for George Washington Campbell;
George Married Catherine & Died in 1791 leaving a will naming the
Following Children;
John, George, Ambrose Joel, Sarah, Mary & Cathy, <who is Catherine> The
other six Children May OR May not have been of
George, BUT must be in the Family.
Several Deeds Recorded in Nelson County Va. where Property belonging to
George Campbell was Transferred yo the SEVEN CHILDREN in the will plus the other
six Children.
Some of the children Lived in Rockbridge County Va. It is
possible that Catherine Could have been the Second Wife of George, & the
last Six Children could belong to a First Marriage
BY EITHER GEORGE OR CATHERINE, remember the BIT about Samuel Campbell in
Okla, <from Va. Having a Step Father named Washington Campbell.
MY Information shows George Washington Campbell Coming to Amherst County From
Albemarle County Va. I believe this County Change Resulted From Amherst Co.
having been Formed From Albemarle in 1761. He served in the Continental Army
under George Washington at Valley forge. My Info came from Jones Library Through
Mary Blankinship. A very thorough Researcher.
George Washington Campbell was My 5th Grt Grand Father, HIS Son's John
Campbell M Frances Wright & William Campbell M Sarah <SALLY> Goode were both my
4th Grt Grand Parents.
NOW here is where I vision a BRICK wall for those who only
Claim one Son or Daughter as, <MY LINE>.
HERES WHY; Because William Campbell's Grand Son Joshua W
<BOSS JOSH> Campbell Married John Campbell's Grand Daughter Rohda
Campbell.
SO If I would only <MY LINE> William or George I would Have my brick Wall.
It is Plain to see that with the Intermarrying of our Ancestors it becomes
important to know where all of those Campbell brother's Could me Connected. YES I
know it is a pain to try keeping up with the Family members, BUT the Left us
NO Choice IF we wish to Trace our Relation.
CUZ A T & Leona <atpowelljr@ao;/com>
